Die US-Serie Shelter erzählt die Geschichte des jungen High School-Schülers Mickey Bolitar (Jaden Michael), der sich in seinem neuen Leben mit einer Mutter in der Reha, einem toten Vater, einer nervigen Tante und einer neuen Schule in New Jersey mit einem Kamel als Maskottchen zurechtfindet. Als eine seltsame alte Dame, die möglicherweise ein Geist ist, Mickey erzählt, dass sein Vater nicht tot ist, ist Mickey sicher, dass er zu allem Überfluss auch noch den Verstand verliert. In Ashley Kent, einer anderen neuen Schülerin, die ihre eigene Tragödie durchlebt hat, findet Mickey eine erdende Kraft. Doch dann wird Ashley vermisst, und während Mickey nach ihr sucht, erfährt er, dass alles, was sie ihm erzählt hat, eine Lüge war – und dass er in großer Gefahr schwebt, wenn er nicht herausfindet, was mit ihr und seinem Vater passiert ist. Mickeys Suche führt ihn in eine Welt voller Verschwörungen, Lügen und den dunkelsten Seiten der Menschheit.
