Das junge Paar Marlene und Imre reist zusammen mit Marlenes Klosterschulfreundinnen Senta, Karen und Elke mit der Kutsche durch Transsylvanien. Imre erzählt ihnen Geschichten von Dracula, der vor vielen Jahren Angst und Grauen im Land verbreitet haben soll. Leider kommt es zu einem Unfall mit der Kutsche und alle fünf stecken mitten in der Nacht im Wald fest. Doch sie finden unerwartet Unterschlupf in einem alten Sanatorium, das dem reichen Doktor Wendell Marlow gehört, der die Gruppe bereitwilligt beherbergt. Seltsame Dinge gehen in dem alten, opulenten Gemäuer vor sich. In der Nacht wandelt eine bleiche Gestalt durch die Flure und der Doktor ist bei Tageslicht nicht aufzufinden. Zudem scheinen seine im Wald aufgestellten Jagdfallen nicht nur für wilde Tiere zu sein…
